Dexter's Laboratory

(Future apologies: I could not get the links to work. You must copy and paste to see the episodes instead of clicking on them)

Does anyone here remember Dexter's Laboratory? It is the tale of a short, scientific genius child (with a groovy accent) who has created a magnificent laboratory behind his bookcase. He performs various experiments and creates numerous inventions, all the while trying to keep his laboratory a secret from the outside world. His sister Dee Dee, clumsy and careless, always seems to somehow ruin his plans. Mandark is his scientific genius nemesis and the two compete in battles of intellect, invention, science, and also giant robots. Let's look back at some classic Dexter episodes!

One of the most hilarious episodes of Dexter was Dollhouse Drama. An experiment gone wrong leaves Dexter doll-sized. Also as a result of the experiment, he winds up hallucinating; Dee Dee uses him as a doll for a soap opera and he believes things are real. He catches the doll cheating on him once with a Ken parody and once with a Dexter look-alike. (Oh no! His evil twin brother whom she thought was Dexter!) One of the funnier parts of the episode is where the "ghost of Dexter's first love" comes back to haunt him. Dexter's hallucinating leads him to see a pale woman...It's actually Dee Dee holding up a clown puppet. How will the story end? *dramatic music* Will Dexter and Darbie end up together? *dramatic music* Will Dexter ever pull out of his trance? *dramatic music* Watch to find out, the ending is rather humorous.

Another enjoyable episode of Dexter was The Big Cheese. In this episode, Dexter tries to complete everything on his to-do list but doesn't have enough time to study for his French test. He places a device on his head that should help him learn French in his sleep; however, the tape ends up getting stuck, leading him to only be able to utter the phrase, "Omelette du Fromage." Does this new knowledge (or lack there of) help or hinder him? Well for one thing, it is the only question on his French test (which he, of course, aces) and he manages to charm the ladies. One should watch the rise and downfall (?) of our hero in this episode of Dexter's Lab!

Alright. Another episode (that unfortunately I was unable to find a video for) is The Muffin King. In this episode, Dexter's father is obsessed with his wife's muffins. However, he must not eat any until she gets home. Dexter and Dee Dee must battle their father in order to keep him from the treasure that is the muffins. Hallucinations, delusions of muffin royalty, tears and drama ensue in this installment of, Dexter's Laboratory.

Besides these classy episodes, Dexter was also filled with super hero parodies, giant robots, lazers, girly toy parodies and more. And now, it's Trivia time, brought to you by IMDB!

- The character of Krunk is quite obviously a parody of The Incredible Hulk. While the real Hulk's pants are purple and his skin is green, Krunk is the opposite.
- Apparently the voice actor for Mandark resembles him a lot in terms of physical appearance:

Mandark

versus

Eddie Deezen

So, if you did watch Dexter, do you remember it? Did you like it? What was your favorite episode? If you haven't seen it, it is a series that I think many will appreciate later on in life as well. Because 90s cartoons were badass like that.

  1. Wow I really miss this show. Yes, I used to watch this back when I was little with my sister and my cousin. Loved it back then.
