The Real Ghostbusters

Let's take this time to look back at a cartoon of greatness, The Real Ghostbusters, which takes place after the 1984 movie, with a few design changes. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Real_Ghostbusters) Did I just start watching this cartoon on Comcast On Demand last year? Yes, but this is not the point. What exactly is The Real Ghostbusters? It's badass, that's what it is. Allow me to explain.

Point Number 1: Ridiculous and awesome things occur in every episode.

Let's take a look at an episode of the Ghostbusters, "XMas Marks the Spot" Before you go and watch this episode allow me to provide you with a synopsis.

The Ghostbusters go back in time and up capturing the spirits of Christmas past, present, and future (things to come blah blah whatever). When they return to their time, they realize what has occured and try to go and fix things. While Egon and Janine are trying to retrieve the ghosts, the rest of the gang must go try to save Christmas by dressing up as the ghosts (including one of them wearing a dress) and convincing Scrooge that he is going through some sort of spiritual revelation by placing a virtual reality slide show on his eyes and pushing him around in a wheely chair to simulate flying. Will Christmas be saved? Watch to find out. The links have been provided below (Don't read point number 2 until you have watched the episode!):
Part 1
Part 2
Part 3

Point Number 2: The ending theme

Assuming that you ignored my request to watch the episode (I understand, you have stuff to do other than watching cartoons) but WATCH THIS.

Ending Theme

And yes, there is a parade thrown for them at the end of every adventure. You'll be happy to know that they recycle the confetti. Poor Slimer always ruins the parade. Every time. Every freaking episode.

Point Number 3: Numerous guest appearances are made by the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man

Point Number 4: It was the 80s, it was cheesy, it was awesome, you should watch it.

Here is some trivia you might like to know about the show, brought to you by IMDB (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0090506/trivia)

  • Lorenzo Music first supplied the voice for Peter Venkman who was played by Bill Murray in the films. Reportedly, Murray did not like that his character sounded like Garfield and the producers replaced Music with Dave Coulier. Music did provide the voice of Garfield until his death. Bill Murray later supplied the voice for Garfield in Garfield (2004).

  • According to a 2006 interview with Maurice LaMarche, Ernie Hudson, who played Winston Zeddemore in the Ghostbusters films, auditioned to voice the character on the cartoon, but the role instead went to Arsenio Hall.

And there you have it.

  3. Thanks for the link Palma. It'll be helpful in selecting cartoons to review in the future. I was actually thinking of Tiny Toons. And Vince, are you referring to Extreme Ghostbusters? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extreme_Ghostbusters) That came out (relatively) more recently, and involves a new cast of characters (though Egon is still there kicking ass and taking names). If so, the show is indeed nifty.
